Arrival at the hospital and first steps

We entered the hospital early in the morning, ready for our first day of surgery. The sun had just risen as we headed for the operating room, surrounded by a team full of energy and enthusiasm  The preparations went smoothly, everyone knew exactly what had to be done. The atmosphere was tense, but also full of anticipation for the challenges ahead.

It was a moment of calm before the storm, before the work really began.

The role of the team: collaboration and support during the procedure

A crucial aspect of a successful day of surgery is collaboration and support within the team. Each member plays an important role and helps ensure the procedure goes smoothly. From the surgeons and anesthesiologists to the nursing staff and surgical assistants - everyone is committed to doing their best. Communication with each other is crucial in order to take the right actions at the right moment. During the procedure, everyone works hand in hand to provide the patient with the best possible care. Through the trust and support in the team, even challenging situations can be mastered. This close collaboration is the key to the success and satisfaction of everyone involved.

Today the first 16 children were successfully operated on and are now in the recovery room. There they will be lovingly cared for by our dedicated intensive care nurses. It is always moving to see how brave the little ones are after the operation and how well they are cared for by our team. We are proud of our volunteers and grateful for the opportunity to help children in these difficult situations.

In total, the doctors operated on 16 children on 4 operating tables throughout the day. The operations continued until around 10.30 p.m. in order to get all 16 children out that day. An operation lasts from around 2 hours to 4 hours, depending on what needs to be done. From simple cleft lip to cleft palate and cleft lip at the same time. With a successful first day of surgery, we have had a promising start to an exciting week of surgery.

Together we can achieve great things! 💙 The parents of the children who underwent surgery are waiting anxiously in the waiting room. They are full of worry, but also full of hope that their loved ones will soon come home safely. At this moment, it is a great comfort for them to know that their children are in the best hands and that our entire medical team is doing its best. It is a sign of strength and trust that they can all go through this difficult time together and achieve great things together.
